Galaxy Chan has over 20 years’ experience in restructuring and insolvency. Prior to joining Zolfo Cooper she was a partner with KPMG Hong Kong, where she led their Family Estate Administration Practice. Her portfolio of clients includes financial institutions, investment holding companies, real estate groups, hotels and trading and manufacturing enterprises.

In addition to the family estate projects she has overseen, Ms. Chan’s extensive insolvency and restructuring experience includes, back-door listings and exit planning and implementation for multinational corporations.

Aside from a detailed knowledge of PRC company and bankruptcy Law, Ms. Chan’s cross-border experience extends to insolvency administrations in other jurisdictions, including the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Malaysia and Singapore.

Ms. Chan is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“HKICPA”) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the HKICPA Restructuring and Insolvency Faculty and holds the HKICPA Specialist Designation in Insolvency.

Ms. Chan is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. She holds a Master in Business Administration from the Imperial College, London and a Degree in Accountancy from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Relevant experience:

  • Inspectorship and provisional liquidation of a Hong Kong Stock Exchange listed manufacturer of heat transfer products and wind turbine towers, which had operations in China, India, Singapore, the UK and the USA.

  • Liquidation of the Hong Kong operations of the world’s largest supplier of marine fuel.

  • Restructuring of several Hong Kong listed companies with Cayman / Bermuda corporate structures by way of a scheme of arrangement.

  • A court appointed Committee to oversee the estate of a mentally incapacitated person, who was the founder of a cross border bus company.

  • Agent of the Executors of the estate of a deceased billionaire Chinese entrepreneur formerly engaged in the electronics industry.

  • Investigating accountant of the estate of the founder of a real estate conglomerate.

  • Debt restructuring of the largest PRC real estate group which enabled the company to obtain approval for listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

  • Solvency review of the Asia-Pacific entities of a US investment bank to assist management assess their viability in the wake of the collapse of their US and European businesses.
